The Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center received a report of a fire in an apartment building in the 2300 block of Hillshire Drive just before 6:30 a.m.
Crews arrived on the scene to find the fire had started on a second-story porch and had spread into the building.
After the fire was extinguished crews remained on the scene to complete overhaul and check for hot spots.
The blaze caused an estimated $15,000 in damage and was said to be caused by the careless use of smoking materials.
