Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels spoke to Seehafer News this week about advancements and renovations coming to the Manitowoc Marina in the upcoming years.
He says that care for the docks is crucial to our town’s environment and culture.
“Our marina is a huge asset to our community,” he said. “Look at anyone along Lake Michigan close to here. We really do have a huge asset here and get a lot of business and folks from all over Lake Michigan.”
Some of the docks are over 40 years old and need replacement.
Engineering studies are starting to be conducted to schedule construction in 2024-2025.
This project will include multiple docks, including the A Dock, which Nickels says “is really starting to show signs of age.”
The mayor says that finance committees are meeting to discuss the funding of these projects and are also working closely with engineering studies.
Plans will likely be determined by the end of the year.
