A new area code is going into effect in our area today (May 5th).
The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin has approved the use of the new 274 area code to overlay the existing 920 code region because of the high demand.
This area code serves most of the northeastern part of the state.
Customers in that area code region may receive a number in the new area code when requesting a new service or additional line.
Existing phone numbers in the 920-area code will not change and rates and services will remain the same as well.
TDS Telecommunications has alerted customers to continue using their telephone number as a 10-digit number and to ensure that all services and equipment acknowledge the validity of the new 274 area code.
