The Manitowoc County Recycling Center has a sale next week in recognition of International Compost Awareness Week.
According to Operations Manager Jon Reisenbuechler, the MCRC is offering 50% off screened compost and shredded leaf mulch purchases from May 8th through the 13th.
The discounted price is $7.50 per cubic yard for compost and $5.00 a cubic yard or shredded leaf mulch.
The benefits of compost include enrichment of the soil with organic matter and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.
Leaf mulch is a new product being offered and is made from the city of Manitowoc’s curbside leaf collection.
The shredded material, aged over winter, provides a good alternative ground cover for gardeners who want to avoid wood mulch or straw.
The recycling center is able to load material in open trucks and trailers Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The offer doesn’t apply to wood mulch or delivered material and is good while supplies last.
