WOMT radio was Named “Radio Station of the Year” for a Medium Market on Saturday night at the annual Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards Gala.
This is the 4th year in a row for this prestigious honor for the staff of WOMT.
Seehafer Broadcasting Vice President Terry Stevenson accepted the award at the Gala in Madison.
“It is an honor being in this industry,” he told the hundreds in attendance and many more watching at home. “It is an honor being in a family-owned company. My grandfather Don Seehafer started our company, 3rd generation, and seeing so much growth.”
Perhaps the most significant distinction was a 1st place award for “Best Pandemic-Related Service to the Community” for the 3rd year in a row and a 2nd place award for “Best Election Night Coverage” which included guest analysts Chris Able and Paul Tittl.
The popular “Jim & Rick” show earned a 1st place award for “Best Morning Show” in a Medium Market.
Co-Host Jim Medley said, he’s proud of the award but, this is about the people that listen to the show.
“The text messages, the phone calls, the people that email and suggest topics for the show, that’s what it’s really all about,” he said. “It’s the listener and everyone that joins in and knows that all opinions are welcome during the Jim and Rick show.”
WOMT News also was recognized with a 1st place award for “Live on-scene reporting” while covering the tragic drowning in the Manitowoc Harbor.
While winning a 2nd place honor for coverage of the 2-way street conversion in the city last August. The production department scored a 1st place award for the “Best Public Service Announcement.”
On the Social and Digital side, Best Online Personality was earned by Ryan Brahm as well as a 1st place award for “Best Online Breaking News Coverage” during “Bomb Threat at Lincoln High School”.
In total, the team of writers and producers for WOMT and Seehafernews.com were recognized with 22, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place awards from over 27 categories.
The awards were judged by 62 members of the media in 3 different States.
