A math teacher in the Manitowoc Public School District has been honored with a lifetime achievement award.
Lori Williams was named the recipient of the Wisconsin Mathematics Council’s 2023 Distinguished Mathematics Educator (DME) Award.
WMC President Lisa Hennessey tells Seehafer News that this is the most prestigious award they give out.
She also says, “Since joining the MPSD in 1987, Williams has been an innovator and leader – as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher, mentor teacher, elementary resource teacher, K-12 program support teacher for the gifted and talented (EXCEL) program, and most recently as the K-12 Math Specialist.”
One of Williams’ nominators stated, “It was clear that Lori’s vision of placing a highly qualified mathematics educator in each classroom pushed her to grow both personally and professionally. She took every opportunity to study, learn and expand her own knowledge and then find ways to share it with others.”
Williams received the award officially on May 3rd and will retire at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
