After the celebration of Mother’s Day Sunday and Father’s Day coming up the 3rd weekend in June, a special one-day Retreat for Dads will be held this weekend in Two Rivers.
Deacon Tom Tomaszewski of St. Peter The Fisherman Catholic Parish tells Seehafer News, “Walking with Saint Joseph, a Sunday Retreat for Dads and the People Who Love Them” is planned for Sunday, May 21st between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Deacon Tom called St. Joseph a remarkable figure worth emulating, however in this day and age that image of a faithful, strong father you rely on has been “dented by images that we have in our culture.”
He explained, “In most movies, dads are bumbling fools, I mean they make mistakes all the time, they screw up, they say the wrong thing. If they do the right thing, it’s by mistake or because somebody has rescued them.”
But, he continued “the truth is that dads, along with mothers, are very important in the faith development of their families.”
With that in mind, Green Bay Packer great and 3-time Super Bowl champion Harry Sydney is keynote speaker for Sunday’s retreat.
“He stayed in the community and what he’s doing (in Green Bay) is running an organization called My Brother’s Keeper,” Decon Tom explained. “And they mentor men of all ages, young men, middle age men, older men to teach them how to be better men. That’s his goal, that’s what he does. “
Deacon Tomaszewski said there’s no charge for the program and they’ll begin with Mass at 10 a.m., and then migrate to the Marian Hall gathering space where most of the program will occur.
You can sign up in advance online at spfcp.org or, just show up for Mass at 10:00 Sunday morning.
