Two Rivers is debuting their new stage dedicated to the Schmitt Brothers.
The dedication event is set to begin at noon on July 15th in Two Rivers Central Park which has been undergoing a massive renovation.
The Schmitt Brothers rose to prominence shortly after appearing on WOMT radio.
Throughout their lustrous career, they won numerous awards including the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA) honor in 1951.
The events taking place at the dedication include a performance by the extended Schmitt family, who raised over $122,000 for naming rights, to honor the quartet.
At 2:00 p.m., a barbershop show will take the stage featuring quartets and choruses including the Manitowoc’s Clipper City Chordsmen and HHT A-Capella Chorus from Plymouth.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony involving family members of the quartet and the presenting of a donated replica medal won by the quartet to the Two Rivers Historical Society.
Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley expressed his excitement by saying, “We are very pleased to work with the Schmitt family on this project and delighted to honor the quartet for supporting their hometown.”
