A 60-year-old Manitowoc man whose a suspect in an attempted murder in the city earlier this month has his initial court appearance adjourned as he seeks to retain legal counsel.
The court has deemed David J. Downs eligible for court appointed counsel and is scheduled to return to court next week.
Police responded to a witness call in the 400 block of Riverview Drive May 17th where Downs was observed stabbing the unidentified victim with a butcher knife and repeatedly kicked him.
Officers performed life-saving measurers until the victim could be transported to a local hospital and had to undergo surgery.
A motive is still not known on what provoked the attack.
Downs remains in The County Jail on $500,000 cash bond on charges of Attempted First-Degree Homicide, Resisting or Obstructing An Officer and two counts of substantial battery.
His initial appearance has been rescheduled for June 5th at 1:30 p.m.
