Mishicot has punched its ticket to the WIAA State Softball Tournament with a 6-nothing victory last night over previously undefeated Peshtigo.
The Indians (21-and-5) jumped on top 3-zip after 3 innings before adding 3 more runs in the 5th against the Bulldogs (26-&-1).
Cora Stodola pitched a complete-game 5 hitter, allowing one walk to go with 10-strikeouts.
The Sectional champs pounded out 9 hits including a 3 for 3 performance by first baseman Katelyn Callahan who was 3-for-3 with a walk, 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.
Coach Dawn Shimek’s ballclub now advances to the state tournament at Goodman Diamond in Madison, where they’ll play a Division-3 semifinal next Friday at either 10 a.m. or noon against an opponent to be determined.
Meanwhile, in Division-4, Algoma fell just short of earning a trip to state when the Wolves lost a 3-2 decision to the Thunderbirds of Iola-Scandinavia.
