Lakeshore area Track and Field athletes battled through a couple of rain delays Friday and scorching temperatures in the 90s at La Crosse for podium finishes this weekend at the WIAA State Meet.
Leading the local contingent was Two Rivers senior Mikaela Helling who capped off a terrific prep career with a first-place finish in the Division-2 3200 meter run in a time of 10:59.57.
The future Wisconsin Badger had achieved a silver medal on Friday when Mikaela placed runnerup in the 1600-meter run.
Two of her fellow Raiders also medaled at state.
Austin Phillips wound up 5th in the 110-meter hurdles and 6th in the 300-meter hurdles, Alexa Zimney was 6th in the Shot Put while the Boys 4 x 200 relay came in 8th.
Other area finishers in the State Track Meet included Manitowoc Lincoln’s Tessa Campbell 9th in the 400-meter dash, the 4 x 400-meter relay came in 10th, and Mason Gates closed out his high school career with a 19th in the 1600-meter run.
Also in Division-2 Girls, Kiel’s 4 x 800-meter relay finished 10th and in Division-3, the Valders Girls 4 x 800 relay also placed 10th.
