The Manitowoc Lincoln Ships fell to The Golden Beavers of Beaver Dam by a score of 3 to 1 in a WIAA Division One Sectional Semifinal Baseball Game played Tuesday at EJ Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
Beaver Dam took a 3 to 0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning when the Ships mounted a rally.
They were able to score a run to get to within two but could get no closer as Beaver Dam hung on to eliminate the top-seeded Ships.
Head Coach Bruce Steinbecker called it a “pretty good baseball game. We had our chances. We just couldn’t come up with a timely hit often enough.”
He also praised their opponents, saying “Hats off to their guy, their senior pitcher. We battled and gave ourselves a chance right to the end. This is probably the best (baseball) team to ever walk the halls at Lincoln High School. They have a lot to be proud of and so should we.”
Steinbecker went on to speak highly of the 11 seniors who played their final game representing Lincoln High School.
“To have those eleven guys stick with us to the very end with a handful playing reserve roles for us, it was a sign of the kind of program I want to lead and want kids to be involved in,” he said. “They have given us everything. They should be proud, their parents are proud of them and so are we. What a great senior class.”
Noah Wech gave up 2 runs, only 1 earned thru 6-and-a third innings of work, and took the loss.
The Ships finish their best season in school history with a record of 20 and 5, to go along with conference and regional championships.
