The state of Wisconsin finds it difficult to find new employees and even more challenging to keep the ones they already have.
Several vacant positions and high turnover are highlighted in a recent report from the Wisconsin Policy Forum.
According to the report, 16% of non-UW state employees lost their jobs in the most recent fiscal year.
The departments that lost the most personnel were Veterans Affairs, Corrections, and the state’s Department of Health Services.
Retirements account for a portion of the turnover, but some state employees may have returned to the workforce as well.
However, the report states that the near-record turnover at the state is probably more due to the difficult working conditions in the corrections and direct care sectors.
