The area has been facing a great stretch of dry weather that has been affecting crops and grass.
Agriculture Director Angie Ulness explains that farmers anticipated a late start planting, but a good season looks hopeful.
“Germination on all the corn looks really good,” she said. “A lot of the corn as you’re driving, you’ll see that’s up, some soybeans are up. Like I said the hay fields are off and now greening back up. But I see there’s some rain in the forecast for Saturday and that’ll be really welcomed.”
And for your lawn, Tom Hartman of Hartman’s Towne and Country Greenhouse in Manitowoc recommends watering your grass.
He told us, “Grass will naturally go dormant. I don’t think that it’s going to get to the point where it’s going to kill the grass. Then as soon as we get some moisture or if you water, things will green up again.”
He clarifies that the dying grass is a normal thing, it’s just happening earlier this year than expected.
