A bill in State Senator Andre Jacque’s Clean Water Agenda recently cleared the Senate.
The bill combats the excessive spreading of manure on farms that causes large amounts of runoff into Wisconsin waters.
The solution is found in what Sen. Jacque calls “marketing manure” which would also allow Wisconsin agriculture to generate income.
Due to current restrictions on fertilizer distributed in Wisconsin, organic products like this are unsaleable.
With the proposal, changes to these requirements would allow manure to be converted into compost and compost byproducts.
This is the third bill in Sen. Jacque’s Clean Water Agenda.
Last session, bills were signed by Governor Evers to extend low-income grants to repair or replace private wells and standardize environmental audits that protect our waters.
