Manitowoc opened its American Legion Baseball season with a loss Sunday afternoon.
Legion Post 88 dropped a 3-1 decision to host Little Chute.
Starting pitcher Bryce Erdmann took the loss after allowing just 1 earned run on 5 hits over 5 and a third innings.
He also issued 4 walks and struck out 2 before being relieved by Damien Gretz for the final 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th.
Coach Kevin Stangel’s club was limited to only 3 hits and their lone run came courtesy of a wild pitch that scored Zander Popp in the top of the 4th.
But, Little Chute would respond with 3 runs in their half of the inning for the victory.
Manitowoc, the defending state legion champs, took the field without 5 players from Kiel High School as the Raiders are playing in the WIAA State Tournament this week.
The Legion team’s next game will be at Green Bay Southwest tomorrow (June 13th) evening.
