A Manitowoc alderman has voiced his opinion on the shared revenue plan that passed through the state legislature.
The shared revenue plan gives cities in Wisconsin portions of state revenue, and with recent additions, schools will also get more funding.
Manitowoc’s 8th District Alderman Bill Schlei tells us he is “a bit disappointed, as somebody that used to work in the state capitol years ago. It was a rather modest number in my opinion let’s say. Hoping for better things in the future, but for now, we will take what we can get.”
Schlei reached out to us this morning and let us know that the City of Manitowoc will be getting just shy of an additional $1.4 million from the state, which is a 26% increase from the previous year.
He also said that “As far as how it’s going to affect the budget of the city of Manitowoc for 2024 it is going to affect it positively but not to any huge degree.”
Though there have not been any talks about what the increase in budget will mean for the city of Manitowoc, there are hopes to invest in street projects in the city.
