With six games in the books, the Manitowoc County Mariners are dealing with a couple of major injuries.
Marcos Alfaro, Team President, and Offensive Coordinator, spoke of one of those injuries that occurred in the Mariners’ 40-to-23 loss to the Southern Lakes Blue Devils.
“Unfortunately with this sport comes with some injuries to the athletes,” he told Seehafer News. “One of our runningbacks got injured Saturday night when he broke his leg. He did have surgery on it sunday, is doing well and is at home.”
Alfaro also had an update on another player who sustained a concussion.
“Definitely he’ll be evaluated before he can come back,” he ensured us. “Every time one of our guys suffers an injury like that we always make safety the top priority for these young men. With this (Saturday) being our final game until July 8th he’ll have a couple of weeks to recover and then we’ll check him out then.”
Tomorrow (June 24th), the 3-and-3 Mariners play host to the Wisconsin Ravens in a scheduled 2:00 p.m. kickoff at Ron Rubick Municipal Athletic Field.
Alfaro says the players really appreciate the home fans at their games.
“It’s important when we’re out there and doing the sport that we love and look up in the stands to see a packed house,” he said. “We’re not quite there yet but it really means a lot to us, the athletes on the field, when the community comes out in support.”
The Mariners compete in the Northern Lights Football League and admission is $8.00 at the gate.
Military veterans, senior citizens, and children ages 10 and under are admitted free of charge.
