Manitowoc Public Utilities is moving away from a management role in Great Lakes Utilities, which is a municipal power agency in Wisconsin currently serving 11 municipalities Manitowoc and Kiel are among those 11. Since GLU was created in 2000, MPU has provided contract management and operational services. MPU Communications Manager Jennie Nelson says MPU will now be shifting its organizational focus. This will allow more concentration on shifting the refueling of its two existing fossil-fuel-fired boilers to using densified fuel pellets. The pellets are said to be completely renewable.
The shift is effective as of tomorrow (Saturday) July 1st.
