A house fire over the weekend has left two Sheboygan residents without a home.
According to Captain Kurt Miller, fire crews were dispatched to a two-story “residence over business type building” in the 1300 block of North 8th Street just before 4:30 p.m. Friday, where they reported heavy smoke coming from the roof area.
They quickly attacked the blaze, which was active on both floors and in the attic, and confirmed that the building was unoccupied at the time.
The fire was brought under control by 6:15 p.m., and overhaul operations lasted until around 10:30 p.m.
Two firefighters had to be treated at the scene for heat exhaustion, but no other injuries were reported.
While the cause of the fire is unknown, we do know that it caused an estimated $175,000 in damage and that the upstairs residence is unlivable.
The Sheboygan Fire Department was aided at the scene by Fire Departments from the Towns of Sheboygan and Wilson, and from the Village of Kohler, along with the Sheboygan Police Department.
