The Kiel Fire Department responded to a housefire this morning (July 3rd) at 632 Fremont Street.
Public Information Officer Kyle Preissner tells Seehafer News the call came in at 8:30 a.m. reporting an upstairs apartment full of smoke.
Upon arrival, an occupant said the fire was out but there was still heavy smoke inside the apartment.
Crews remained on the scene for an hour and a half conducting salvage, overhaul, and ventilation operations.
There was no immediate damage estimate and the cause of the fire is believed to be an unattended candle.
One occupant of the residence was evaluated by EMS staff and later released at the scene.
Kiel Police assisted the fire department and ambulance service at the fire scene this morning.
Authorities want to remind everyone of the importance of installing working smoke detectors and never leaving a burning candle unattended.
