A bus driver in Eau Claire has been praised as a hero after assisting in the delivery of a baby at a bus stop.
Jerry Melsness, the driver in question, recounts that during his route last Friday, he encountered a heavily pregnant woman.
Realizing the urgency of the situation, Melsness promptly transported her to the bus transfer station.
However, it became evident that immediate hospital attention was required.
With the next bus not scheduled to arrive for another half-hour, Melsness escorted the woman to a bench at the bus stop.
It was at this moment that the baby entered the world.
While Melsness admits to never having delivered a baby before, he drew upon his experiences as a father of three, having been present for the birth of his own children.
The Eau Claire Transit managers acknowledge that this incident might be a first for their bus system.
In a fortunate turn of events, Melsness bumped into the mother a few days later and learned that both she and her baby girl were in good health.
Melsness’ quick thinking and willingness to assist in an unexpected situation highlight his heroic actions during his regular bus route.
