Three local inline speed skaters are packing their bags as they get ready to participate in the USA Roller Sports Speed Skating National Championships.
16-year-old Zakia Kalista, 15-year-old Owen Garcia, and 11-year-old Braylon Jensen will be skating at the national meet in Lincoln Nebraska after placing first in the Novice Senior Ladies, Junior Men, and Freshmen Outdoor categories respectively at the Regional End of Year event in Waco, Texas.
The trio are all a part of the local team that does their training at the Rollaire Skate Center in Manitowoc.
Their coach, Carly Valdez, who is a former nationally ranked skater herself, tells us her team “has made leaps and bounds” in their two years of existence, and that she is incredibly proud of them.
The team will leave for Nebraska on Friday, with the meet taking place at the Speedway Sporting Village from July 10th through the 15th.
