A remote-control air show is taking the sky in Fond du Lac this August.
The annual “Warbirds and Classics over the Midwest” show will be held Thursday, August 17th through August 20th this year featuring pilots from across the U.S. and Canada who have signed up in advance to take part.
The event kicks off at 9 on Thursday with over 125 pilots and more than 350 flying objects.
Planes in this event are required to be large-scale models of “World War I to modern day warbirds, or models of classic aircraft built before 1960” and can have wingspans over twenty feet.
The aircraft will perform precise formation flying, speeds of up to 200 miles per hour, and in simulations of bomb drops set to period music.
Sunday is the Robert Wellnitz Memorial Airshow which will spotlight many different types of planes.
There will also be food vendors available to grab a meal or sweet treat, a merchandise area, and there will be a raffle for remote-controlled planes and other prizes.
The show is being hosted at Wellnitz Field at N4841 Hickory Road, 2-½ miles south of Highway 41 on Hickory Road.
The Hickory Road bridge will be under construction, though alternate directions, as well as event information, can be found at MidwestWarBirds.com.
