The construction of Two River’s Central Park has not gone unnoticed, and it serves as a symbol of hope and connection throughout the community.
Citizens of Two Rivers have come together to support the revitalization of the downtown area and fundraising for the creation of Central Park.
While on WOMT’s Be My Guest Program, City Manager Greg Buckley said, “Our original goal was $800,000. We’re now somewhere north of $830,000 and we’ll be announcing a new grant tonight.”
Over $120,000 was raised just from pavers from the park alone. Performances including the recent event featuring Elvis impersonator Tony Rocker drew in tons of crowds, and even inspired an Elvis themed drink at Cool City Brewing Company right across the street.
Buckley thanked the people of Two Rivers for their support in this project saying, “The community has really stepped up and shared the vision there.”
Next weekend, a celebration will be held to dedicate the Central Park Stage.
“On July 15, Saturday, the dedication of the Schmitt Brothers Stage at Central Park West,” he told host Lee Douglas. “That will be an all-day celebration with Barbershop groups, both locally and around the country performing from the Schmitt Brothers Stage. A full day of activity with food, drinks, and activities, and then the formal dedication for all of Central Park West is on Sunday, the 16th.”
Other performances from the Spicy Thai Band, the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble, and Ten Strings Acoustic will also be present alongside many popular food trucks, including Brian’s Smokehouse, El Tequila, and ice cream sundaes served by the Two Rivers Historical Society.
There will be a ceremony as well to honor everyone who made this vision come true. For more information, visit www.exploretworivers.com
