High healthcare costs are hurting Wisconsin businesses. Wisconsin is fourth highest in the nation for healthcare costs, which affects both consumers and employers.
CEO Wilard T. Walker, Jr of Walker Forge, a manufacturing company out of Clintonville, spoke on “how healthcare transparency would positively benefit the state’s business community”.
Walker explains “Patients will refrain from seeing the doctor because they’re unsure of how much it will cost. And that ultimately can create costs and problems for the state’s workforce long-term”.
To combat this, the Know Your Healthcare Costs Act sets out for more transparency from Wisconsin hospitals.
The proposal would require hospitals to make a digital file publicly available including the standard charges for certain items and services from each hospital.
Other states have passed similar legislation in the past.
