While many Republicans have criticized Governor Tonu Evers’ latest State budget, Senator Andre Jacque says there are some positives to it as well.
The Senator from De Pere explained that more money was allotted for youth apprenticeship, and for clean water initiatives.
“I obtained an additional $10 million for youth apprenticeship and career and technical education, an area where northeast Wisconsin has really set to tone for the rest of the state,” he noted. “For clean water, we extended the Wisconsin Fund, which helps low-income households replace failing septic systems and protect our groundwater.”
Additionally, public safety, phone tax, and road repair were all addressed in the budget.
“For public safety, the budget doubles the law enforcement training reimbursement for our local government,” Jacque explained. “Also, we are finally redirecting the phony phone tax on our telephone bills, (which is) intended for public safety communications, to finally go towards that purpose. And additional vehicle sales tax will finally go to the transportation fund for road repair.”
That being said, Senator Jacque did admit that there are some missed opportunities but said overall he is “pleased” with the progress.
