Some residents of Sheboygan are upset with Mayor Ryan Sorenson after a photo of him with a queer and trans rights group was posted on the Visit Sheboygan Facebook page.
The photo in question was taken at the Sheboygan Pride Picnic and depicts the Mayor with members of a group known as “The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” which describes themselves as a leading-edge Order of queer and trans nuns.
The group was founded in San Francisco in 1979, and according to their website, they have “devoted ourselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment.”
WHBL in Sheboygan reports that they were contacted by a resident, who claims the photo is a violation of the City’s Ethics Policy, and that the group mocks nuns and the Catholic religion.
The man also said that he tried to get some letters addressed to the Common Council added to the next Council meeting agenda, but was turned down.
The Council is set to meet at 6:00 this evening, during which a group known as “Take Back Sheboygan County” has stated they plan on protesting.
