An ordinance was passed at Monday’s Manitowoc Common Council meeting regarding the distance between adult entertainment establishments and parks and schools.
With the last adult entertainment location closing in early July, the opportunity arose to create limitations on where establishments of that type can be operating in the city.
Since it is illegal to remove a business from the city, an ordinance of this type must be made in a situation where no businesses of this type are in operation.
While on WOMT’s Be My Guest program, Mayor Justin Nickels explained that this is a rare occurrence locally.
“This is the first time in I don’t even know that we haven’t had a single one in city limits,” he told host Lee Douglas.
An ordinance of this type has had local support for a long time, but operating establishments have prevented the possibility.
The passed ordinance prevents adult entertainment establishments from being within 1000 feet of parks and schools.
