Lakeshore Technical College’s efforts to provide educational programming to incarcerated individuals are paying off.
There has been a 272% increase of incarcerated individuals from Manitowoc and Sheboygan facilities continuing to further their education at Lakeshore Technical College upon release.
In the past 4 years, Lakeshore has transmitted 30 individuals, as of recently, between July 2022 and June 2023 they’ve managed to match that number.
Tanya Boman, LTC’s Vice President of Instruction says, “The key to that success has been building relationships and creating a safe, positive learning environment for students”.
Lakeshore’s Advisor has been making frequent visits to nearby jails and having conversations about their goals relating to education, housing, and medical care.
Even upon release, these conversations typically continue and they then can get connected with education options and community resources to help them achieve their previously said goals.
