In American Legion Baseball. Manitowoc Post 88 advanced to the AAA state tournament with a doubleheader split against Bayport, dropping the first game 5-3 but coming back for an 8-1 victory in the second contest. In the first game Manitowoc scored two runs in the first inning on singles by Bryce Erdmann and Brock Peterson. They took a 3-2 lead into the 7th inning but Bayport rallied for 3 runs in the 7th. Gavin Lettenberger took the loss in relief of Zander Popp. In the second game, Post 88 scored 3 runs in the first inning, two in the second and one in the third to take control of the game. Tate Hartlaub went three for three to lead the offense. Brock Peterson earned the win with a 7-inning stint, allowing just a single earned run.
Coach Kevin Stangel’s Post 88 team goes on to state in Marinette on Tuesday. They will meet Eau Claire at 11 am. Manitowoc carries a record of 18-8 into the tourney.
