The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office has attributed speed and alcohol as contributing factors to a serious wreck that resulted in a 17-year-old being hospitalized.
The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday morning when the teenage driver, who was later found to be under the influence, attempted to flee from pursuing deputies.
During the reckless chase, the teen’s vehicle reached an alarming speed of 100 miles per hour before losing control and crashing into the roundabout at the intersection of Black Avenue and Riverview Drive.
The impact caused the car to overturn multiple times, causing severe damage to both the vehicle and its young driver.
The 17-year-old was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, with the extent of their injuries yet to be disclosed by authorities.
In the aftermath of the wreck, prosecutors are examining the case closely, considering charges related to Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) along with several other potential legal ramifications.
