Digging without dialing is dangerous, according to Wisconsin Public Service. This is August 11th, or 811, and WPS reminds everyone that you should call 811 at least three days before you start any digging project. The purpose is to keep neighborhoods and communities safe.
WPS says every digging project, from planting a tree to professional road construction work, needs to start by contacting 811. Operators will then visit the digging area for free to mark the location of underground equipment like electric and natural gas lines to help everyone stay safe. Damaging those lines can lead to service interruptions, costly repairs, and serious injuries.
