The Friends of Crescent Beach and the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce have organized the 9th annual Soar on the Shore kite flying event for this Saturday (August 19th).
The event will run from 11 am- 4 pm at Crescent Beach in Algoma.
This family-friendly event includes many activities, such as stunt kites, kite crafts, a cannon firing at 11:30 am alongside a maritime history open chat with the former director of the Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay, and a kite candy drop scheduled for 1 pm.
For kids, there will be face painting and balloon twisting with Mischief and Magic, a beach scavenger hunt, and the chance to meet and greet live reptiles from the Peninsula Reptile House.
A firetruck and a DNR Warden’s boat will also be on display.
There will be a DJ with a variety of music, and tons of food including pulled pork sandwiches from Capt.
Tom’s BBQ, loaded and regular nachos from the Algoma Boy Scouts, hamburgers and hotdogs from the Grandview Terrace, a corn boil from Destination Imagination, and an ice cream truck from Sweet Escapes.
Kites brought from home are welcome. Since kite flying is dependent on the weather, the rain date is scheduled for August 20th at the same time.
