A Kewaunee Woman has been sentenced in a 2020 case of stealing from a Kiel area business.
55-year-old Karen Schwind was charged with two counts of Theft in a Business Setting and 69 counts of Fraudulent Writings by a Corporate Officer, but she was found guilty due to no-contest pleas on the theft charges and 15 of the fraud charges.
Judge Jerilyn Dietz sentenced Schwind to spend six years in jail followed by six years on extended supervision while the 53 other counts were dismissed but read into the record.
According to police reports, Schwind would alter the Quick Books records to make it appear as though a legitimate vendor had been paid when in fact, the check was made payable to herself.
