The annual Newton Fireman’s Picnic kicks off this Friday for the 76th year.
Jay Boldt and Lee Glaeser from the team of volunteers let us know what to expect, starting with “Friday night we have fish plates starting at 5 pm, N.E.W. and PI modified truck and tractor pulls, and we have Cherry Pie starting at 8:30 pm.”
Also starting Friday night and running through Sunday, there will be a volleyball tournament with men’s, women’s, and co-ed teams.
A consignment auction will run throughout the day on Saturday.
The duo noted that the auction will feature both new and antique farm equipment.
They also joked “you have no idea what’s going to show up in Newton.”
Finishing strong on Sunday, there will be horse pulls, which tend to be very popular amongst the crowd.
Boldt and Glaeser tell us the plans for the final day.
“We have the parade at 11:30 rain or shine,” they said. “Ending the parade, we’re having a military Blackhawk helicopter fly over and then land at the park. It’s going to be there for about an hour or so. We’re also going to have, supposedly, a mobile rocket launcher coming also, so that will be something to see.”
