As we are approaching the sixth anniversary of the demolition of the Mirro Aluminum Company building on Washington Street in Manitowoc, it leaves many residents wondering: Is anything set to happen in that space?
Last Tuesday on WOMT’s Be My Guest, Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels spoke on plans for the site, noting “We have a development agreement actually in place with a developer to do townhomes, workforce housing, about 50 units, that would go on the Washington Street side.”
As far as the overgrown weeds on the plot, Nickles said, “We don’t want to put a lot of money into it if we know that’s going to be happening, and it looks like 2024 is when that would be happening. So, we’re trying our best to just maintain it as best we can, I understand it’s not the prettiest site, but hopefully one year from now you’ll see construction and work being done, then those weeds will be gone.”
Redevelopment of the area will hopefully boost the economy of downtown Manitowoc.
