For the past three years, a Manitowoc organization has been gathering people at Manitowoc’s Evergreen Cemetery to clean up the gravestones of Civil War veterans.
In the last two outings, over 100 volunteers cleaned up an estimated 80 gravestones, honoring their sacrifice and their memory.
Additionally, several monuments in the cemetery and even grave sites from the Spanish-American War have been cleaned.
The date for the 3rd Annual Civil War Gravestone Restoration Project has now been announced.
The group and anyone who wishes to volunteer to assist will be in the cemetery on the morning of September 23rd.
As a reminder, Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the liability form.
Find the liability forms online at Manitowoc.org/EvergreenCemetery by clicking on Volunteer Forms. Volunteer forms will also be available that morning.
