For some, the Manitowoc County Fair is a time to show off their hard work. For the Kutz family, it is a tradition.
We spoke with Mike Kutz, who began showing cattle at the fair 51 years ago, and has been a staple at the fair for as long as it has been at the current expo grounds.
However, he tells us his dad Marvin has been doing it much longer than that.
“My dad started showing animals at the Manitowoc County Fair in 1947, so we’ve had animals from our farm here for 77 years,” Mike told Seehafer News.
Over that time a lot has changed, most notably to Mike, the facilities.
“I’ve been to probably half of the county fairs in the state, and this is a Cadillac,” he said. “The buildings. The animals. It’s just phenomenal.”
We asked Mike what his favorite memories of the fair are and he without thinking said, “Winning”, but also said the commodore with other farmers in the area is an added bonus.
“Being this is my 51st year of actually showing, I have gotten to know not just the people I grew up with, but their kids, their grandkids,” he explained. “It’s a big family reunion every year.”
Marvin briefly reminisced with us as well, noting that he has loved seeing his son, and now his grandchildren participate at the fair, which has essentially been his yearly home away from home.
