There’s a new field at Jefferson Elementary School in Manitowoc.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon to recognize the completion of the new turf field.
Jefferson Principal Lisa Delsman says before the turf field, there was just a muddy field that wouldn’t grow grass.
It made it hard for kids to play.
Delesman says “They would get dirty and full of sand. Now we have this turn that’s inviting and looks beautiful. It’s a safe place for our students to come out and play.”
District Manager of Building and Grounds Mike Schwarz says there is a stone base with sand underneath with the turf over the top so it’s soft to run and walk on.
There are also solid concrete bollards around the field painted to look like athletic equipment.
Delsman says the field is also compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The project has been in the works for the last three and a half years.
