The Manitowoc Public Library is celebrating 25 years of moving to Quay Street.
The library was first built on Hamilton Street before it moved in 1998.
Executive Director Karin Adams says the celebration includes showing pictures from the old library and artifacts from constructing the new library.
“We really wanted to remember 1998 and what happened at that time and then look at the building as it is now and how we use it today” she explained. “It aligns with our original thoughts for the library.”
The idea for the new library was to make it a place not only for reading but a place for the community to gather.
Adams explains that the library space on Quay Street has been used to its full potential.
She also says eight people who worked at the library on Hamilton Street still work for the library today, something she says “really speaks to the organization and the city of Manitowoc really appreciating their employees.”
The library will celebrate the 25-year anniversary on Tuesday, September 19th starting at 12:30 in the area where the ribbon was originally cut for the Quay Street library.
There will be a light reception followed by hors d’oeuvres.
