This past Saturday’s “Chowdown Plymouth” presented by Big Brothers Big Sisters Wisconsin Shoreline was the final iteration of the event.
Executive Director Denise Wittstock says for nine years, volunteers with the organization turned the backyard of the Plymouth Arts Center into a “little village” for people to enjoy the food catered by area restaurants.
But she says the event was all about logistics.
“It’s about a decade old,” she explains. “Just looking at the capacity of the organization, the moment of the event, and the leadership of our committee that handles that, it was time to retire the event and consider reimagining it in a way that wasn’t so logistic heavy.”
“Chowdown” will be replaced by a future event that shows off the talents of people in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program next year.
Wittstock says a lot of money was raised during the last event, noting “We raised roughly $120,000 for the event with our sponsors and the generous giving of the attendees at the event itself.”
She says “Chowdown” went out with a bang, but the organization is looking forward to a bigger event in Manitowoc County in the future.
