John Berthold, an 81-year-old Eau Claire resident facing allegations of murdering his 77-year-old wife, has expressed his reluctance to secure legal representation.
During his court appearance yesterday, Berthold informed the judge of his decision not to seek legal counsel, despite the judge’s recommendation to consult with an attorney.
According to investigators, Berthold has confessed to fatally assaulting his wife in July.
He claims that he took this drastic action because he perceived her as a narcissist and could no longer endure the situation.
Berthold’s next court appearance is scheduled for the upcoming week.
