Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels has reported the verdict on recreational vehicles on city streets.
Recreational vehicles, such as golf carts, on city streets have been an ongoing argument in Manitowoc, with the Public Safety Committee making the decision.
The Mayor tells Seehafer News, “The Public Safety Committee this week did meet to talk about whether or not we should allow golf carts or any type of those types of recreational type vehicles to be allowed on city streets.”
Although there are many smaller communities in the area that allow it, Manitowoc’s larger stature has proved difficult when it comes to the safety of these vehicles on the road.
“Ultimately on the recommendation of the police department, and others the committee did not move forward with approving anything,” Nickels said. “It is a safety issue, again we don’t want to go through all the licensing and, what it would take for someone to rig up a golf cart for example to be considered street legal.”
Due to Manitowoc’s large and consistent traffic, Mayor Nickels and the Public Safety Committee have found the request to be a safety hazard, and therefore will not allow it.
