It was a recurring theme yesterday at the state capitol where Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers asked for a special session to get a vote on a plan to spend $360-million on childcare providers.
Both Republican-controlled chambers gaveled in and gaveled out of the special session request.
In a statement from 9th district State Senator and Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu said, “It’s no secret that Wisconsin is facing a severe workforce shortage. Legislative Republicans have long supported workforce development measures that strengthen Wisconsin’s economy and create good, family-supporting jobs.”
He added, “Unfortunately, Governor Evers has been a roadblock to getting Wisconsin back to work. 80% of Wisconsinites supported a referendum to impose work search requirements on welfare recipients. Gover Evers has vetoed a bill to create that requirement two legislative sessions in a row.”
LeMahieu added that Senate Republicans will continue to stand with Wisconsin families that are struggling with inflation by presenting a workforce development proposal to the Governor.
He says the Evers special session bill will be referred to committee and follow the normal legislative process.
