For the 100th year, students are roaming the halls of the iconic Manitowoc Lincoln High School.
The school as an entity has been around longer than that, but the classic gothic building designed by Jens Jensen and Dwight Perkins officially opened up in 1923.
We spoke to Manitowoc Public School District Superintendent Jim Feil about what the district is looking to accomplish this year.
“Success was always one, the other is culture, you know our culture, and particularly focused on our professionals but really all staff and students,” Feil explained. “You know, in terms of, we are now focused on being a culture of excellence.”
While on the WCUB Breakfast Club, Feil noted that Lincoln’s tower is seen as a beacon of excellence and that a group of alumni have some plans for the tower.
“They’re spearing a new initiative, they’ve requested, you know, with the school district’s support to restore the tower,” Feil revealed. “I mean right now because the tower needs some work, we’re not allowing people up there for tours because we have to for safety issues, take care of some things.”
Restoring the tower was a unanimous decision, however, alumni have brought other ideas to the table.
“But then, in terms of restoring that where there were classrooms that can be up there, you know we have in the JFK a fieldhouse, we’ve got an athletic hall of fame, but we don’t have something similar for music and other things, they have all kinds of great ideas,” Feil noted. “I was so impressed when they came to me.”
Fiel encourages those who would like to get in touch with alumni to call him at (920)-686-4781.
