The proposal to revamp the rhino exhibit at the Milwaukee County Zoo has met with varying levels of enthusiasm among members of the Milwaukee County Board.
During a recent meeting, supervisors were presented with the project’s estimated cost, totaling $16 million.
While the zoo intends to contribute an additional $6 million towards the project, the majority of the funding would need to be sourced from Milwaukee County taxpayers.
Supervisor Steve Taylor voiced concerns about the significant financial commitment, emphasizing that the county’s resources are finite.
However, he acknowledged the subpar conditions of the current rhino exhibit, underscoring the need for improvements.
The proposal is now set to advance to the full County Board for further consideration and a formal vote.
