Year three of the Civil War Gravesite Restoration project in Manitowoc promises to be the most successful yet.
Since the project began in 2021, over 100 gravesites in Evergreen Cemetery belonging to Civil War veterans, and several from other conflicts like the Spanish-American War, as well as their families, have been cleaned by volunteers.
This year looks to have a record number of volunteers with several local organizations, including the Patriot Riders of America WI Chapter 2 and the Manitowoc Lincoln football team, bringing groups of volunteers to help clean the remaining 125+ sites.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 Saturday morning at the cemetery located across from the Eternal Flame on North 18th Street and will feature several local veterans dressed as Union soldiers.
Anyone under the age of 18 will have to have a liability form signed by a parent or guardian.
Those can be found online at www.Manitowoc.org/EvergreenCemetary, but they will also be available on-site.
