The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters to wear a life jacket during the duck hunting season.
Lieutenant Darren Kuhn says there have been 18 boating accident deaths so far and he wants hunters to follow safety tips so they can hunt safely.
The DNR says always wear a life jacket because water temperatures are cooling rapidly this time of year and a fall can turn dangerous quickly if hypothermia sets in.
Kuhn also says if a hunter falls, the extra heavy equipment can weigh them down and could make it hard to get through the water.
The DNR also says to make sure whatever boat you are using can handle the waterway you are on. More information can be found online at dnr.wisconsin.gov.
