With the upcoming cold and flu season approaching, CVS Pharmacist Nicolaus Marra is reminding people to get vaccinated.
One thing he wanted to express is that the flu shots don’t give you the virus itself.
“Flu shots are made with an activated virus or proteins from flu viruses, so it changes your immune system to fight the flu,” he explained.
“Common side effects of the shot included soreness, redness, tenderness, and swelling in the injection site area. It could also include headache, fever, nausea, muscle aches or fatigue.”
He also says the drug store chain also has new COVID-19 and RSV shots available for those who need it.
He says elderly people should get the RSV shot if they can.
“Older adults are at greater risk for serious complications from RSV because as we age the immune system weakens,” he said.
“That’ s why they do get vaccinated.”He recommends finding more information on the Centers for Disease Control website.
He says if you can schedule and give your information ahead of time through an app like the CVS app, it will save you a lot of time.
